Yes – and you don't have to enter anything for it. As soon as a federal state is stored for your family, the app knows the public holidays and school holidays of that federal state and marks them automatically in the calendar of the custody planner. Set it up once, and from then on it is always up to date.

Monthly view of the custody planner with childcare days at father and mother, a public holiday marking and school holiday markings
In the custody planner public holidays are highlighted in red, school holidays run as a yellow stripe across the month

Step by step

  1. Open Settings › Calendar (in the menu under ⚙️ Settings) – or, as a family administrator, Administration › Families.
  2. Open the Federal state for public holidays and school holidays setting directly at your family.
  3. Choose your federal state from the list.
  4. Click Save.
Directly afterwards the school holidays and public holidays are ready – the app reports, for example, "Saved. 12 school holiday periods for 2026 applied." After that it checks for new data automatically every 15 minutes. You don't have to do anything else.

How to recognise the markings

  • Public holidays appear as a red, bold date number; the day dialog additionally shows the name of the public holiday.
  • School holidays appear as a coloured stripe along the bottom edge of the calendar cell, the name is in the day dialog.
  • Below the calendar a legend explains what the colours mean.
  • The markings also apply in the share link and in the PDF export of the month.

What the app knows

  • Public holidays – such as New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Labour Day, Whitsun, German Unity Day and Christmas (1 and 2).
  • School holidays – depending on the federal state: winter holidays, Easter holidays, Whitsun holidays, summer holidays, autumn holidays, Christmas holidays.
Note: Without a stored federal state the calendar stays without these markings. And private holidays are something else: planned holidays are stored separately under Holidays – they then appear the same way in the same calendar.

Everything in detail can be found in the Handbook: Public holidays and school holidays.
