💰 Household budget
The household budget keeps income and expenses in view: recurring entries are converted to the month, individual bookings are listed with their actual date. At the end a balance shows whether anything is left over at the end of the month.
The household budget is deliberately kept free of notifications – it is a tool for working things out and looking things up, not a sidekick for the individual shopping trip.
Two ledgers: family and private
The household budget offers two separate ledgers: Family and Only for me. In the family ledger all family members see the entries and totals; in the private ledger an entry is visible exclusively to its owner – it appears neither in other people's totals nor in any other view.
The active ledger is remembered on the device – whoever keeps a personal ledger will start there automatically next time.
Recurring entries
Recurring entries are costs or income that repeat: rent, insurance, childcare, salary. What is recorded is the title, the direction (incoming or outgoing), the amount and an interval in months (1 to 120). The quick selection offers monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual; anything else goes through the number field.
The monthly share is calculated automatically: an annual contribution of 1.200 € therefore appears as 100 €/month in the total. A preview already shows the monthly share while you type – so there is no surprise when you save.
- Open the Household budget entry in the menu.
- Choose the right ledger (Family or Only for me) via the tabs at the top.
- Click + New entry.
- Enter title, direction, amount and interval.
- Optionally: add a category and a note.
- Save – the entry appears in the total immediately.
Amounts are accepted in German format: "1.200,50", "29,90" and also "29.90". Dots count as thousands separators only if a comma is also present.
One-off expenses
One-off expenses are single bookings with an actual date: the weekly shop, a repair, a birthday present. Unlike recurring entries they do not repeat, but hang on a particular day.
- Switch the tab from Recurring entries to One-off expenses.
- Click + New booking.
- Enter title, direction, amount and date.
- Optionally: add a category and a note.
- Save – the booking appears in the month's list.
With the arrow keys or the month dropdown you move back and forth between months. The totals and the balance always refer to the month shown.
Balance and breakdown
Below the tabs the figures card shows incoming and outgoing per month as well as the balance – green for a positive balance, red for a negative one. The footer summarises what both ledgers (family + your own entries) add up to together.
The "Outgoing by category" breakdown lists the entries by category: recurring entries as monthly shares, one-off expenses as the amounts of the month shown. The heading names the respective period.
Under Past months you see the one-off expenses of the last twelve months as a bar chart – so you quickly recall how much came together in August or in March.
Categories
Categories are freely chosen and collected as a suggestion list – you don't have to create them in advance. Once someone has entered "Groceries", that name turns up in the suggestion list the next time. Upper and lower case are treated as one and the same.
