What is a "PWA"?

PWA stands for Progressive Web App โ€“ an app that is not installed via an app store but runs normally in the browser. You'll hardly notice the difference to a classic app โ€“ the benefits, on the other hand, are all the greater:

No store, no extras โ€“ just get started

  • No installation needed: You simply open the link to the app and the whole family can get started. No app store, no extra account, no waiting for approvals.
  • Still like a real app: With one tap ("Add to home screen" / "Install app") you get your own icon on the device โ€“ Planbiene then starts in full screen like any other app, without a browser bar.
  • Always up to date, automatically: Every new feature appears on its own. No update download, no restart, no manual steps โ€“ you open the app and are always on the latest version.
  • Works offline: If the internet stutters, Planbiene stays usable โ€“ recently loaded content such as the shopping list or weekly plan remains visible and usable.
  • Notifications: Planbiene can let you know when something new is waiting (e.g. a new task or points for your child) โ€“ even if the app is currently closed.
  • Sparing with storage and data: A web app is much lighter than a classic app and only loads what is needed right now โ€“ ideal for the children's phones.
  • The same on every device: Smartphone, tablet, computer โ€“ all devices show the same state. "Is there a version forโ€ฆ?" is no longer an issue.

What that means for your family

  • Everyone uses the same app: One account per adult, one family account for the children โ€“ everyone has the app on their own device and changes are immediately visible everywhere. Dad's weekly plan in the morning is on the children's tablet by noon.
  • Load content without a network on the go: The shopping list can be opened in the supermarket even if the Wi-Fi is misbehaving โ€“ what you buy and tick off is synced as soon as you are online again.
  • Quick to share: Recipes, links or texts from other apps can be sent straight to Planbiene โ€“ they land as a draft in the notes and shortly after in the family list.
  • Photos straight from everyday life: Receipts, new recipes or device manuals โ€“ you simply photograph them with your phone and the app prepares the images automatically, without long upload waits.
  • Configure once, it does the rest itself: Federal state for public holidays and school holidays, calendar links (CalDAV/ICS) or the custody planner mode are set up once โ€“ afterwards Planbiene maintains the dates itself.

Your data stays with us

Planbiene is not the product of a large corporation โ€“ the data lives on our own infrastructure, not with external image services or cloud partners. Photos of receipts, recipes and manuals are stored in the application itself. E-mail is only sent when you expect it: password reset, feedback and demo requests. More details in the privacy notice.

For those who want all the details

  • Planbiene is pure browser technology โ€“ no extra software, nothing to install, works in any current browser.
  • The app is developed in Germany with its own code on its own servers; there is no dependency on large platforms.
  • Thanks to offline capability, notifications and installation as an icon, Planbiene combines the best of web and native app โ€“ at a fraction of the privacy demands that classic app stores make.
In short: No app store, no forced updates โ€“ instead an app that runs everywhere, keeps working offline, notifies you and does away with any installation. Try it out: the demo access uses the same code and shows the app in its real state straight away in the tutorials.
